India-based Newton School raises US$ 5M in Series A funding

Bengaluru, India-based Newton School, an ed-tech startup that helps people get placed, raised US$ 5 million in Series A funding on 8 February 2021.

Investors: The funding round was led by RTP Global. Other participants in the round included existing investors Nexus Venture Partners, Prophetic Ventures and Unacademy co-founders Gaurav Munjal, Roman Saini, Hemesh Singh, Flipkart’s CEO Kalyan Krishnamoorthy, Udaan’s Sujeet Kumar, CRED’s Kunal Shah, Freshworks’ Girish Mathrubootham and Razorpay founders Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar. Newton School had raised US$ 650K in its seed funding round in September last year which was led by venture capital firm Nexus Venture Partners.

Purpose of the funding: The funds will be utilized for team expansion, scaling student intake and product development.

Founded in 2019 by Nishant Chandra and Siddharth Maheshwari, Newton School mainly aims at IT aspirants to get jobs. It provides a 6-month-long cohort-based course which includes 1000+ hours of coding, 50+ hours of soft skills training, live projects and mentorship oversight. A Mentor working in the top companies is assigned to each student who provides 1 on 1 professional and personal guidance and helps them get their dream job.

To apply to Newton school, one has to give an entrance test and interview as well. This is to test their aptitude and basic coding syntax. The school also wouldn’t charge any fee until the student is placed.

The company claims that its students are working in companies such as Zomato, Unacademy, Nykaa, Affle and even big MNCs like Publicis Sapient, Thoughtworks, Motorola, and Nutanix.
