Bangalore-headquartered (India) Edtech unicorn Unacademy launched its first-ever offline experience store on March 12, 2022. The store was opened at Pusa Road, New Delhi.

Unacademy plans to launch three more offline stores in the coming six-eight weeks. It plans to establish similar touchpoints across the country. Kota, Jaipur, and Lucknow are the next phase of expansion cities. All four cities are popular hubs for test preparation in India. With these stores, the startup entered into the hybrid-retail model.

Unacademy’s purpose for offline stores

The stores will help students and parents understand what Unacademy has to offer. These stores will act as an experience zone for users to understand the startup’s subscription model. It will also bring new users on board who are eyeing to take various Unacademy courses.

Besides, existing users can connect with their teachers via these stores.

It will also host counselling sessions and an in-house library for students. Further, they will add classrooms that will host top educators. Thereby, Unacademy focuses on omnichannel retailing.

What the officials have to say

“We believe online education is the future. However, we think people need awareness on why online will work. It is not so much about hybrid learning but more about an omnichannel presence. We have no plans of entering a hybrid-learning model yet,” said Gaurav Munjal, chief executive officer (CEO) and co-founder of Unacademy.

“The idea of having top educators host sessions at these stores is to ensure that learners also do get a connect. Usually, sessions from some of these top educators on Unacademy are attended by 10,000 students,” he further said in a statement.

Karan Shroff, Partner and CMO, Unacademy, said, “India does have a trust element when you are present offline as a brand, and we wanted to have that with our learners. We wanted to be closer and more accessible to them. The second intent behind opening these stores is that we wanted them to experience the product. So, students can walk into the store today, there are about 20-30 devices that are present at the stores, and they have their headsets attached to the devices as well, for students to experience a live class.”
