AM-Flow, Amsterdam-based 3D printing post-processing and automation company, has completed US$ 4 million series A funding round.

The investment was led by BOM Brabant Ventures and backed by Materialise, Midwest Prototyping and Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland, along with return investors Miller Turner and DOEN Participaties

This funding will allow the company to start providing step-change automation to the Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry, with the aim of achieving what it calls the ‘Lights Out Factory of the Future’. This Industry will consist of Artificial Intelligence computer vision and motion and robotics process 3D-printed parts. AM-Flow’s technology will improve manufacturing speeds and efficiency levels.

AM-Flow has applied the principles of Lean Six Sigma and Quick Response Manufacturing for providing Operational Excellence.

“We are delighted to welcome our new investors, and I would like to thank our existing shareholders for their continued support. This strong syndicate of high-tech investors validates our approach and the funding enables us to expand our solution portfolio and market presence,” said Stefan Rink, AM-Flow CEO.

Rink also added, “We have a team that is passionate about enabling Additive Manufacturing to live up to its sustainability promise: local, distributed manufacturing. To drive further adoption of Additive Manufacturing, the industry must get to competitive price and quality levels per part, and shift her focus from the 3D printer to the AM Factory.”

AM-Flow has identified that the biggest challenge when engineering and manufacturing AM production lines is that it should be able to process AM parts with an infinite variety of shapes and sizes. This brings up problems in identification, sorting, quality control, handling, transporting and packaging automation. AM-Flow claims to be able to deliver modular solutions for all these difficulties in each step by applying machine learning and an Industry 4.0 approach vertically.
