Thailand’s Line Man secures US$ 110M from BRV, merges with Wongnai

Line Man, a Thailand-based on-demand assistance platform of messaging App Line has secured a US$ 110M funding in August 2020 from BRV Capital Management. The startup has also declared its merger with Wongnai Media Co Ltd, a Thai restaurant review and discovery platform.

This is the first instance in which a subsidiary of Line has bagged such a huge investment. BRV Capital Management is a global growth investment platform that has funded various startups such as Paypal and Waze. The reason for BRV’s investment in Line Man is due to its success in becoming a “regular assistant” to native consumers.

Capital raised will be used to strengthen the newly formed alliance and enhance its services across Thailand.

Line Man was launched in 2016 by Line, an instant messaging App that is the Japanese subsidiary of the South Korean internet search titan Naver. The Line Man App offers diverse services such as deliveries for food, groceries, parcels, along with messenger and taxi services. It currently runs in Bangkok and several other locations like Nonthaburi, Samutprakran, and Nakornprathom. The startup aims to expand its amenities to 17 more countries in future, emphasizing on the fact that their focus will always be on the local market rather than starting out abroad.
