DUBLIN, July 19, 2023 — The Davy EIIS Fund, a partnership between BDO and Davy, Enterprise Ireland, and private investors from the digital learning sector, have invested a total of EUR 1.8 million in The Digital Learning Institute (DLI), a provider of digital learning courses and upskilling programs.

According to John Kilroy, the founder of DLI, the investment will enable the business to generate ten new jobs over the next year and carry out its aggressive plans for international expansion. DLI hires Aaron McKenna as the new CEO as part of the investment round to drive growth.

The investment, which captures the accelerating global shift to digital learning, comes after the company’s remarkable expansion over the previous two years. DLI aids in the creation of elite digital learning practitioners for multinational corporations and educational institutions. The NHS, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Diageo are some clients.

In 2021, John Kilroy and Nicola O’Neill established DLI. From its base in Dublin, the company currently generates seven figures in sales each year and employs fifteen employees. Over 2,000 students have been served by DLI, and most of its revenue comes from international markets.

Dedicated to promoting the value of digital learning in tackling global concerns like accessibility, diversity, and sustainability, DLI has the vision to become the industry leader in digital learning standards, emphasizing the US and UK markets.

Aaron McKenna, the incoming CEO, has a lot of knowledge and expertise in developing education start-ups and fostering growth. Before that, he developed and held the position of CEO of the UCD Professional Academy, a university-affiliated subsidiary for workforce upskilling, which expanded from nothing to 25,000 students in just 3.5 years. Before being acquired by Spectrum Equity in 2017, the Digital Marketing Institute, which rose to become the top global certification authority for digital marketing, also held the role of managing director there.

“DLI is bringing innovation and adaptability to the crucial area of upskilling and lifelong learning that can benefit the workforce and the larger economy,” said Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland.
