April 21, 2023, in Athens,  Georgia, is experiencing rapid expansion in e-mobility, often known as electric mobility. The University of Georgia hopes to continue to pioneer e-mobility thanks to a USD 5 million grant from Georgia Power Company to the UGA College of Engineering.

UGA President Jere W. Morehead said, “The University of Georgia is incredibly grateful to Georgia Power Company for their generous investment in our efforts to advance e-mobility through teaching, research, and outreach.” “Through our established relationship with Georgia Power, UGA is increasing the educational opportunities available to our students and promoting the growth of our state’s economy.”

The contribution was revealed by Kim Greene, Chairman, President, and CEO of Georgia Power, during the University of Georgia’s second annual Electric Mobility Summit. Leaders from academia, research, business, and government convene at the summit to talk about prospects and hurdles facing the e-mobility industry.

With more EVs on the road every day and the tremendous economic growth we experience due to new jobs and investment being driven by the industry, Greene claimed that electric vehicle technology and innovation are already having a good effect on the state. “At Georgia Power, we’re committed to assisting that expansion, and we understand the need to have a prepared workforce to support it. To improve e-mobility on every level and provide opportunities that will serve future generations of Georgians for years to come, we are happy to cooperate with UGA.

The College of Engineering has never received a contribution as significant as the $5 million gift. It will provide funding for a wide range of initiatives and opportunities in electric vehicles, including everything from bicycles and cars to planes and the infrastructure and technologies that support them. Georgia Power and the university intend for this support to advance the field of e-mobility and guarantee that the state of Georgia gains from that progress.

The donations from Georgia Power are intended to benefit the state of Georgia’s rapidly expanding e-mobility industry. Every day, the company’s economic development team works with the condition to promote Georgia as a business-friendly state. The Georgia Department of Economic Development reports that 35 projects related to electric vehicles have committed more than $23 billion in actualized or anticipated investments since 2018. High-profile initiatives from Rivian, Hyundai Motor Group, and SK Battery America are among them.
