US-based Inbox Health raises US$ 15M in Series A funding

Ubie, a Tokyo-based business that offers an AI-powered symptom checker app and hospital SaaS tools, has raised an additional US 19 million in a Series C investment. This raises the health tech startup’s total Series C investment to USD 45.2 million.

Sogo Medical, , Japan Impact Investment, AAIC Investment, Rakuten Capital, Shoko Chukin Bank, Japan Finance Corporation, and Mizuho Bank are among the new investors.

According to the co-founder and CEO of Ubie Kota Kubo, the expansion round comprises 90% stock and 10% loan investment. Ubie has already raised a total of USD 76 million since its beginning in 2017.

After launching in Singapore in August, Ubie intends to utilize the revenues to expand its healthcare platform and expand its presence in the United States. The business released its symptom checker app in the United States earlier this year and established a subsidiary in October.

Kubo noted that the outlet is in talks with pharma businesses to expand relationships, many of whom have operations on the East Coast. Kubo pointed out that the company intends to finalize and announce several collaboration agreements early next year.

Ubie isn’t the only health tech firm working on an AI-powered consumer symptom checker. Buoy Health, a Boston-based firm, created an AI-powered symptom check app; Ada Health, located in Berlin, has created an AI-powered symptom assessment app; and IBM’s Mediktor assists patients with symptom evaluation.

Kubo mentioned that Ubie has a B2B product named Ubie for Hospital, also known as AI Monshin, and a B2C app for individual users as a differentiation. The Ubie for hospitals, which allows doctors to spend less time taking notes on patients’ histories, is a medical questionnaire software that allows patients to conduct a preliminary interview on a tablet while waiting to see doctors.

“AI Monshin [automatically] picks and asks roughly 20 questions from 3,500 sorts of inquiry data based on data taken from about 50,000 medical research articles [written by more than 50 physicians],” Kubo explained.

Ubie, co-founded by medical practitioner Yoshinori Abe and engineer Kubo, says that over 1,100 medical facilities in Japan use their AI Monshin. In addition, the company’s symptom checker app has over 7 million monthly active users (MAUs). Ubie employs over 200 workers.
