SPRINGFIELD, Tenn., December 1, 2022 – Stony Creek Colors, a natural indigo dye maker situated in Springfield, Tennessee, has concluded a USD 4.8 million Series B2 fundraising round spearheaded by the company’s long-standing partners, Lewis & Clark AgriFood and Levi Strauss & Co. Stony Creek Colors will utilize the funds to expand its agricultural infrastructure and dye extraction technique to provide regenerative solutions to farmers and the textile industry.

Stony Creek Colors is the only industrial-scale maker producing 100% bio-based indigo worldwide, as the USDA BioPreferred Program approved. Its vertically integrated architecture enables full traceability down to the farm level, which brands and customers rely on. Stony Creek Colors will use the funds to further enhance its ideas, created and field-tested over the last two years, as it moves toward scale.

Sarah Bellos, Stony Creek Colors’ Founder and CEO:

“Stony Creek Colors was developed to leverage naturally existing compounds in plants to solve fashion industry difficulties while providing farmers with a successful regenerative rotating crop. Our previous client partnership with Levi Strauss & Co. enabled us to bring major denim supply chain innovations to reality, such as IndiGold®. This equity round marks the start of our next phase of long-term growth.”

Since its start, the firm has successfully grown, collected, and processed its patented indigo varietals on over 500 acres of farmland in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida using its repeatable and extendable farmer production model. The company’s natural indigo method fixes nitrogen and collects more carbon than it consumes, allowing for environmental gains on farms where the crops are cultivated.

“The 2021 financing round enabled Stony Creek to expand its production into a more tropical zone where its enhanced plant genetics are better suited. With this new round of funding, the firm plans to expand its agricultural production and processing to fulfill the rising need for pure colors in the textile sector.” Tim Hassler, Managing Director of Lewis & Clark AgriFood, agrees.

This investment for Levi Strauss & Co., located in San Francisco, follows a five-year cooperation with Stony Creek Colors. The plant-based dyes developed by Stony Creek Colors were tested as part of the Levi Strauss & Co. Wellthread® collection. This live R&D lab solves design and manufacturing issues to build a more sustainable future via innovative products.
