Balderton Capital led a USD 19 million Series A investment for PhotoRoom, the award-winning worldwide picture editing platform. Angels from Facebook, Hugging Face, and Disney+ were also present. Adjacent, who led the seed round, is also taking part.

PhotoRoom, founded in late 2019 by Matthieu Rouif and Eliot Andres, has quickly become the go-to editing tool for consumers, entrepreneurs, and businesses worldwide trying to improve their online photography. In a world where visual content reigns supreme and high-quality photographs enhance conversions and increase online engagement by up to 352%, the demand for high-quality, easily accessible editing tools is growing.

PhotoRoom’s sophisticated AI allows users to modify photographs in seconds by applying deep learning to transform pixels into objects. Backgrounds can be removed, replaced, or blurred. With the Magic Retouch tool, the program may be used to remove undesired elements.

The firm, recognized for being the best at eliminating backgrounds is a fantastic fit for generative AI. The startup helped to accelerate [sound diffusion] in beta by allowing users to make marketing product pictures using a single product photo and a brief written description. Its million merchants will be able to create product graphics with any setting and accessories in a matter of minutes, as opposed to pricey studio filming, which often takes weeks and costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.

PhotoRoom user Jeff Strauss, director of image operations at Wolt, who formerly supervised a staff of 700 photo editors:

“When I was at Amazon, we required one image to sell an item; this ensures uniformity while boosting consumer experience. It’s challenging to get 100% coverage with photographs you’re happy with; it soon becomes your brand identity, and hiring a professional might be costly.

I believe we are witnessing another revolution in photography, similar to the digital invasion that eliminated Kodak and Polaroid in 2000. Why? We can now link our smartphone’s high-end camera with PhotoRoom’s fantastic editing capabilities. This is a game changer for e-commerce photography since it gives businesses greater control over the pricing and development of the images that define their brand.”

PhotoRoom offers photo editing software that is sophisticated enough to generate exceptional photographs while remaining easy enough to use without any training. Its world-renowned technology uses deep learning to transform pixels into objects, greatly simplifying non-creative jobs like eliminating backgrounds from photographs.
