September 26, 2022- An USD 8 million Series A investment spearheaded by I Squared Capital and other strategic investors has been made in KODE Labs, an intelligent building business based in Detroit. Edi and Etrit Demaj, brothers, launched the company in October 2017.

For the benefit of those who live, work, visit, and play in buildings, KODE is committed to making them brighter, healthier, and more efficient. KODE has created a platform that connects all types of building management and operational systems while lowering energy use, cutting carbon emissions, and automating activities to optimize digital technology’s impact on real estate.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with leading PropTech investors who provide the necessary financial support and a significant portion of the market knowledge required for expansion. We will be able to invest in R&D with the help of this investment while keeping our competitive advantages.

We’ve developed software that addresses them immediately, leading to a high degree of client satisfaction, to meet the difficulties of today and the expanding needs of future buildings,” stated Edi Demaj.

The business has grown to encompass three continents and has drawn some of the world’s biggest REITs, organisations, and educational institutions. It also enables customers and partners to construct smart buildings quickly and economically. To combat climate change, the 2022 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes USD 369 billion in funding as well as tax credits tied to clean energy. Over a variety of worldwide portfolios, KODE’s technology has produced energy savings of up to 30% and operational savings of up to 50%.

The brothers, who fled the Kosovo War as refugees in 1999, were born in Kosovo. The company’s name (KO for Kosovo and (DE) for Detroit) was inspired by their connections to both areas. Both Detroit and Kosovo are home to KODE’s offices. The founders have a long history of working in the real estate sector, including management, development, finance, infrastructure, and technology. They are serial entrepreneurs.

KODE Labs has been reviving the intelligent building industry in North America, Europe, and Australia since its founding. The business has collaborated with illustrious Fortune 100 firms, such as international REITs like QuadReal, Bedrock Detroit, and Stream Realty.

According to Peter Corsell, Global InfraTech Fund Partner at I Squared Capital, KODE Labs is reducing energy use and carbon emissions significantly in the constructed environment. We are really impressed with both the technology used by KODE and Edi and Etrit’s knowledge and execution skills.

Detroit-based KODE Labs offers an operating system that is data-centric, user-friendly, ROI-driven, and unmatched in terms of the client experience. This system completely changes how real estate is managed and experienced. Its software-as-a-service (SaaS) paradigm is used by its innovative building operating system, KODE OS, to standardise and enhance building performance. Over 100 team members from different backgrounds and experiences make up KODE.
