The Clubhouse Craze – Everything you need to know

If something is invite-only, it is bound to create a buzz as everybody likes to feel exclusive. Something similar has happened with the invite-only app Clubhouse, an audio-based social app that allows users to join group chats which has leveraged the FOMO (fear of losing out) factor in people.

Clubhouse suddenly rose to fame in 2021. In December 2020, it had just 3,500 members worldwide, but now it has over 600K users including Oprah, Ashton Kutcher, Elon Musk, Jared Leto and some renowned entrepreneurs. It recently hit the headlines when Elon Musk held a conversation with Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev on Clubhouse.

Clubhouse wasn’t built yesterday. It has been there in the App store since April 2020. It was founded by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Paul Davison and ex-Googler Rohan Seth. You can’t just download the app and create an account. An existing user will have to send you an invite first. Moreover, Clubhouse is only available for iPhone users. Still in its beta mode, many people joined the app to listen to their favourite stars and entrepreneurs speaking on varied topics ranging from business to politics to technology. It won’t be wrong to say that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has helped the app become a hotshot as people badly wanted to join his conversations about topics like Robinhood, Wall Street, brain implant etc.

The social-networking app based on audio chat is enabling users to tune into interviews, interactions or discussions between the people who are hosting. The conversation rooms are similar to conference calls but with a few people talking and others listening. One can join in the conversation if they have been approved by the room moderator. After the conversation has ended, the room is closed. It can also be used as a space for casual discussions or drop-in conversations with friends and interesting people.

The concept is pretty interesting as anyone can directly talk to the host or they can themselves host an interesting conversation on any topic. It is an amazing platform for content creators as well. Content creators have so much to speak and share with the world which they might not be able to do through their blog posts or YouTube videos. Clubhouse gives them a platform to not only speak their mind but also interact with their followers and fans. The idea behind the app is extremely versatile as it allows for a variety of content such as political discussions, comedy club, jamming sessions, consultations and so much more. Clubhouse is very useful for entrepreneurs as well as it can help them build a customer base for their brand. They can drive traffic to their websites by building a strong network of people who actually trust them. Honestly, the possibilities of this app are endless.

The creators of Clubhouse say that they hope to open the app to the public soon, but for now, it will remain an exclusive club.
