Lockwood Publishing, UK-based enterprise which has created a 3D social platform, Avakin has raised US$ 25 million funding on 4th November 2020.
The Series A round was led by Chinese technological giant Tencent. Existing investors of Lockwood Publishing Hilmar Veigar Pétursson (the CEO of CCP games), David Helgason (co-founder of Unity) and Novator Partners also joined this investment round.
The Nottingham based enterprise is a cross platform developer which builds entertainment software for tablet and mobile devices. The games developed by Lockwood are published over several web platforms and app stores like iOS, Playstation, Amazon Google Play etc.
Tencent’s vice president Bo Wang said, “The players across the globe are increasingly loving virtual games for socially interactive and entertaining experience. We are very delighted to be partners of Lockwood Publishing and we are looking forward to supporting the vision they have for delivering an engaging experience to the players.”
The game developed by Lockwood Publishing, Avakin Life hit the mark of 200 million registered users this year earlier. They have a vision to make their 3D social platform Avakin Life into a user driven and collaborative game that can be easily accessed by anyone. The players can create their own Avatar and communicate with the huge online community of the game. They also have the other features like making new friends or customizing their own apartment. The game is built with the purpose to bring the player’s real world into your mobile. Their game Avakin Life launched in 2013 got a great welcome from players who wanted to play in a safe virtual world. This resulted in their exponential growth.
