Adasky, an Israeli startup engaged in developing and manufacturing thermal imaging (LWIR) systems for automotive and pedestrian safety, secured $15M in Series B funding as announced on Thursday that it has completed a US$ 15 million series B funding round.

It is a developer and manufacturer of systems combining high-resolution thermal vision sensors with artificial intelligence for the advanced automobile industry. The round was led by its previous investors including Japan’s Kyocera Corporation and South Korean automobile parts manufacturer Sungwoo Hitech. So far the company has raised a total of US$ 55 million.

AdaSky designs and manufactures intelligent, high-resolution thermal sensing systems based on a technology that operates on different wavelengths than the human eye or the usual cameras. Its sensor technology detects the body heat radiated from people to create a precise thermal image of their surroundings. It does not require an external energy source and is not dependent on any lighting or weather conditions. The sensor can detect pedestrians at distances greater than 200 meters, can see and classify vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists, as well as animals and inanimate obstacles at distances far beyond the vehicle’s high-beam headlights.

Its Viper thermal camera augments vehicles existing assistive technologies like cruise control or ABS to adapt to the traffic conditions. According to the company, this technology will increase the safety of vehicles in the future as it has made a contract with an undisclosed car manufacturer. They add that they are currently conducting commercial testing with other clients.

It also makes a series of additional products like Sharp Vision, AdaSky’s intelligent high-resolution LWIR thermal camera for smart city infrastructure to be attached to street intersections or low visibility zones to issue warnings like cars stuck on train tracks or jaywalkers.

Amid the Covid-19 outbreak, AdaSky developed Viper-R, a device which can measure the body temperature of an unlimited number of people in real-time from a distance of up to 10 meters, and give alerts when individuals with elevated body temperatures are detected.
