Montreal, Canada-based, a global leader in Threat Exposure Management, Flare acquired a U.S.A-based data exposure company renowned for its adept team and its unique Total ReconTM detection engine, Foretrace. The company announced the acquisition on March 26, 2024. However, it did not disclose the amount of the transaction.

Flare also revealed as part of the agreement that Nick Ascoli, one of the founding executives of Foretrace, and Matt Mosley, the vice president of strategic partnerships, will join the firm as senior product strategists and vice president, respectively.

Purpose of the acquisition by Flare

The technology developed by Foretrace allows for enhanced contextualization and correlation of threat exposure data through the use of generative AI systems that are taught to support users in threat investigations. Customers wishing to establish TEM programmes could expect improved results from the addition of these enhancements to Flare’s platform, which unifies the coverage of formerly divided technological solutions including cyber threat intelligence, attack surface management, and digital risk protection.

This acquisition represents a critical turning point in Flare’s development since its founding in 2017. It also occurs in 2023, the year the Montreal-based corporation is commemorating triple-digit growth over the previous year. Since the term Threat Exposure Management (TEM) was first used by Gartner in 2022, this transaction is thought to be one of the first M&As in the field.

What the CEO of Flare has to add

Norman Menz, CEO of Flare, said, “Bringing Foretrace into the Flare family further broadens our capabilities for collecting emergent threat data while also deepening our expertise, ensuring that we can be in a great position to lead the way in TEM. This acquisition is a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence, as we empower organizations to navigate the threat landscape with confidence and precision.”

What the Foretrace official has to comment

Matt Mosely, said, “We are thrilled about joining forces with Flare. Together, we are poised to set new standards in threat exposure management, leveraging our combined expertise and innovative technologies to deliver unprecedented value to our customers. We are eager to embark on this exciting new chapter with the Flare team.”

Ascoli further added, “At its core, Threat Exposure Management is about applying an adversarial lens to external threats. This was a big part of my mission when I founded Foretrace, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue it with Flare.”
