Founders checklist for a successful startup funding round

NEWARK, Del., June 8, 2023 — The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) is happy to announce that Project Call (PC) 7.1 will award about USD 4 million in financing, as well as an extra $500 thousand for potential regional leads for the NIIMBL eXperience Programme in 2024. The 2024 NIIMBL eXperience Requests for Applications (RFA) and the PC7.1 Request for Proposals (RFP) are active.

Through August 3, 2023, NIIMBL will receive submissions in response to PC 7.1 for important technical and workforce development issue areas. Specialized subject areas include:

  • Processing of cells (mainly for use in cell treatments)
  • Technologies for accelerated therapeutic protein processing.
  • Measures for CQAs and process variables that are in-line, at-line, and online.
  • Technologies for generating and analyzing viral vectors.
  • Enhancing industrial processes’ dependability and quality assurance, notably through the use of Big Data applications.

Additionally, for the Regional Lead Organisations for the NIIMBL eXperience Programme in 2024, NIIMBL is granting $500k or up to $100k per candidate. With the help of this RFA, the NIIMBL eXperience program will be extended across the nation. The applicants will act as a regional lead organization for the NIIMBL eXperience Programme in their area, planning program logistics, recruiting students, and managing the Programme. A program that exposes students to the biopharmaceutical manufacturing sector through practical instruction, field trips, and interactions with “hosts” from professional organizations, businesses, and academic partners will be proposed by applicants. The NIIMBL eXperience RFA has a July 27, 2023, deadline.

“It is exciting to offer multiple funding opportunities to our members that span a range of interests and expertise,” says Chris Roberts, Associate Institute Director, NIIMBL. “As an institute, our goal is to accelerate innovation in the biopharmaceutical manufacturing space, including advancing both our technology and building a skilled workforce to move the needle truly.”

The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) is a public-private partnership to accelerate biopharmaceutical innovation, fostering the creation of standards that enable more effective and quick manufacturing processes, and developing a workforce of biopharmaceutical manufacturing experts who are among the best in the world. This will significantly increase the competitiveness of the United States in this market.
