LONDON-  Innovator of the future of fitness gaming technology Quell, located in the UK, has completed a USD 10 million Series A fundraising round with participation from Khosla Ventures, Heartcore Capital, Social Impact Capital, and businessman Naval Ravikant. Tencent headed the round. With this most recent round, Quell’s total funding now stands at $15.6m.

The Series A round enables Quell to enlarge Shardfall, its debut title, and grow its video game selection. The business will also start mass production of its “Impact” fitness gaming system, which uses haptic sensors and proprietary motion and biometric tracking technology to provide a fully immersive video gaming experience with workouts that burn over 600 kcal/hour, the equivalent of an intense spin class. Strong pre-orders have been received by Quell, who plans to launch the product internationally later this year.

The athlete-grade resistance bands at the heart of Quell’s wearable technology allow users to push themselves farther and further toward their fitness goals. Users can feel the effects of their movements as they run, jump, and fight through gorgeously rendered immersive environments thanks to the device’s ability to transform the player’s body into the controller, eliminating the need for bulky and uncomfortable virtual reality or camera equipment. Players battle mysterious monsters that imperil the Sacred Forest’s holiness in the violent combat game Shardfall.

Quell’s personalized, gaming-first method produces a gym-caliber workout incorporating cardio and strength. All fitness levels and skill levels can participate. A high-intensity training may be delivered thanks to the built-in fitness monitors, which monitor calories burnt, heart rate, and speed.

The Quell Impact is the first gaming platform built from the ground up to give high intensity. According to Cameron Brookhouse, Co-Founder and CEO of Quell, the player is the controller during these customized workouts. Using our cutting-edge technology, we aim to empower millions of people worldwide to discover the advantages of physical activity for their health and well-being while immersing them in worlds where the hero grows stronger as they progress. The support overjoys us we’ve received from such an esteemed group of investors, and we eagerly anticipate the over 10,000 pre-orders for Impact arriving in homes shortly.

Tencent’s chief representative for Europe and a member of the Quell Board, Dr. Ling Ge, stated: “Tencent is happy to assist Quell as it seeks to introduce the future of fitness to customers internationally. Fitness gaming, which until recently was a budding industry, offered a fantastic gaming or fitness experience, but never both. This issue is resolved by Quell’s Impact gadget, which delivers a continually exciting, exhilarating home fitness experience by refusing to choose between exercise or entertainment. We are delighted to sponsor Quell as they work towards its worldwide debut this year because we have faith that they will bring fitness gaming into the mainstream.
