U.S-based venture capital firm Sequoia Capital opened up appliances for its Sequoia Spark 02 initiative. The company announced the program on August 25, 2022.

The initiative invites female founders and entrepreneurs from India and Southeast Asia to apply for the program. The vision for the Sequoia Spark Fellowship is to inspire more women in India and Southeast Asia to build companies by increasing their access to capital, mentorship, knowledge and network.

About the Sequoia Spark 02

Sequoia Spark fellowship program includes a USD 100,000 equity-free grant. Besides, the program offers immersive mentorship to aspiring founders. Spark 02 applications will be open from August 25, 2022. The deadline to apply for the program is October 25, 2022. 

The duration of Sequoia Spark 02 will last for four months. The applications to be considered are from founders in the early stages of company-building. Spark 02 comprises a more focussed, intense curriculum that delivers the same value as before. However, the pace intends to be better suited to the founders’ needs and stage. 

Meanwhile, the aspiring women entrepreneurs will receive mentorship from a set of very experienced founders from Sequoia India and Southeast Asia’s portfolio. Besides, the cohort selected will have access to Sequoia India & Southeast Asia specialists across human capital, marketing, product, legal, and finance operations. Moreover, Each founder will also be mapped to an investment advisor, who will work closely with them throughout the program.

Content of the Program

The Sequoia Spark 02 includes a series of one-on-one and online workshops and AMAs. Further, it contains masterclasses on critical areas of company-building, such as brand building, fundraising, and attracting the first set of customers. 

Moreover, the program intends to offer opportunities to Spark founders to meet and connect with the broader startup community, industry leaders and professionals. The company aims to achieve this through in-person mixers, meetups, and events.

About Spark 01

Earlier in 2021, the company launched Sequoia Spark 01. The first cohort began in December 2021. The cohort included 15 early startups powered by 20 female founders from India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Dubai. The startups belonged to various domains such as FinTech, SaaS, EdTech, D2C and Web3.

Various VC ecosystems, such as Accel, Alpha JWC, Beenext, East Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, Venturra Capital, Vertex Ventures, and Whiteboard Capital, have already partnered with these entrepreneurs of Spark 01. 53% of Spark 01 startups raised seed and Series A rounds. The collective funds raised by these startups amounted to US$34 million.
