21st July 2022 marks a significant advancement for Amazon’s interest in the healthcare sector and its position as a major player there. The business recently revealed its plans to acquire One Medical, a primary care organization that uses in-person, online, and virtual interactions in its services. When One Medical went public in 2020, Amazon said it would acquire the business for USD 18 per share, giving it an enterprise value of USD 3.9 billion.

Regarding its intentions for One Medical under its umbrella, Amazon has not yet made any significant statements. Regarding its preferences for One Medical under its umbrella, Amazon has not yet made any meaningful statements.

However, the emergence of services like One Medical’s theoretically fits very closely into a larger vision of digital services — replacing those same services given by more traditional and frequently analog ways — as played out by Amazon across several other verticals.

Neil Lindsay, SVP of Amazon Health Services:

“In our opinion, the healthcare experience needs to be completely reimagined. By making an appointment, waiting days, weeks, or even months to be seen, taking time off work, driving to a clinic, finding parking, waiting in the waiting room, then the exam room for what is frequently a hurried few minutes with a doctor, then making another trip to a pharmacy, we see many opportunities to both improve the quality of the experience and give people back valuable time in their days.

We enjoy developing new technologies that make things that ought to be simple and easier, and we aim to be one of the businesses that, over the coming years, significantly enhance the healthcare experience. We think we can and will assist more people to obtain better treatment when and how they need it by working with One Medical’s human-centered and technology-powered approach to healthcare. We are eager to complete that long-term mission.”

Amir Dan Rubin, One Medical CEO:

“It’s incredibly exciting to have the chance to reinvent health care and improve results by combining One Medical’s human-centered and technology-powered strategy with Amazon’s concern with the customer, history of creativity, and commitment to spend over the long term. There is a huge opportunity to improve patient, provider, and payer experiences in healthcare by making it more accessible, inexpensive, and even pleasurable. To develop and broaden access to top-notch healthcare services, we look forward to cooperating.”

One Medical sells services directly to consumers and businesses that offer employee health coverage. Currently, it serves over 8,000 businesses as B2B2C clients.

The business, which had Google and other backers when it was a startup, has experienced its share of ups and downs. In 2021, we discussed a data breach at the business that made hundreds of clients’ email addresses public.
