The definitive agreement between Markforged and Höganäs AB to acquire Digital Metal, the maker of a leading binder jetting solution renowned for accuracy and dependability, has been signed. 

This acquisition will expand Markforged’s capabilities into high-throughput production of metal additive parts. Markforged is the developer of the integrated metal and carbon fiber additive manufacturing platform, The Digital Forge. After acquiring Teton Simulation Software in April, this is Markforged’s second acquisition of the year.

Höganäs will receive approximately USD 32 million in cash, 4.1 million shares of Markforged common stock, and roughly USD 1.5 million in cash to settle certain intercompany accounts as part of the deal (subject to certain adjustments). It’s anticipated that the acquisition of Digital Metal will be completed in the third quarter of 2022. (subject to customary conditions). 

The acquisition of Digital Metal by advancing the business’s goal of providing on-demand manufacturing solutions for industrial clients. With the help of this innovative product, manufacturers may easily make large quantities of functioning metal parts. As we already know, traditional production frequently takes months from concept to manufacturing, includes supplier risk from third parties, and has subpar unit economics when ramping up production and producing in smaller volumes.

Powder binder jetting, which uses various metal materials, is viewed by Markforged as a highly scalable additive manufacturing process for production-grade products. Digital Metal’s solution delivers the highest level of precision, best-in-class part quality, and dependability.
