On April 12th, 2022, Hookdeck raised CAD 3 million (USD 2.4 million) in seed funding, led by Matrix Partners and backed by industry leaders such as Farhan Thawar (VP Engineering at Shopify), Alex Plugaru (CTO at Gorgias), Ott Kaukver (CTO at Checkout), and Francois Arbour (CEO at Designstripe), among others.

As they grow to accommodate more customers and teams with more enormous traffic volumes, the newly disclosed funding will be used to quadruple their crew and further develop their product. They’re making their free plan ten times more liberal, boosting the amount of webhook events users can have from 10K to 100K and the data retention period from one to three days. Established clients are concentrating on expanding webhook visibility by unlocking more critical data points and insights, resulting in more effective and impactful monitoring and error recovery.

What the founder has to say:

Alexandre Bouchard- Founder of Hookdeck:

“One of the difficulties for developers is that managing webhooks is time-consuming because the data they transmit enters the system and interacts with applications. There is a significant infrastructural and proximity issue. For this to work, you’ll need various parts in that infrastructure. The alternative to Hookdeck is to construct everything yourself.”

Another challenge for developers, according to him, is simply having visibility into the webhook data as it enters the system. “So, what’s going on in my system, what’s failing and why, and eventually using that data as input to troubleshoot my system in my environment and enable the team to effectively collaborate to integrate those systems.”

About Hookdeck:

Alexandre Bouchard and Eric Tran, the founders of Hookdeck, were working on a product to help handle webhooks in 2020 when they felt disappointed and decided to take a break to gather some perspective.

While the founders were away rock climbing for a few months, others noticed and began adapting their method. The break came to an end when the founders returned to work on the product, including feedback from the early adopters.

According to the firm, “Hookdeck provides webhook infrastructure that makes it easier to develop, manage, and test them all in one place.”

The company has increased the retention time of the data from one day to three days to provide individual developers with a greater chance to test the service.

The company now employs seven employees and plans to grow with the new cash. Bouchard recognizes the difficulties of assembling a diverse staff and considers them as he develops the business. He believes that reaching out to your trusted network is the easiest thing to do early on, but he also knows that this method does not always provide a diverse outcome. As a result, he and his co-founder intend to expand their network by attending various events to meet more varied candidates.
