Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) incubated startup Agnys Waste Management Pvt Ltd. developed an automated machine to convert waste into manure on March 14, 2022. Agnys Waste Management operates under Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC).

The automated machine goes by the name of BHOOMI. BHOOMI stands for Bio-composting of Horticulture and Organic waste into Manure Indigenously. The machine takes 10-20 days to convert waste into manure. Imagineering Lab at IIT Kanpur, along with support from Engineers India Limited, helped develop the device.

Agnys Waste Management Machine’s Features and Working

The device is in possession of various advanced features. It includes carbon filters, shredders, air pumps, solar panels that aid in conversion.

The process via this machine is more convenient and rapid as compared to other conventional techniques.

It follows a simple step-wise process. Initially, the organic waste goes into the hopper. Thereon, the inbuilt shredder cuts it into small and uniform pieces.

The pieces enter into the main body of the machine. The unique bacterial composition present in the body initiates the composting process.

Further, the mixer and air pumps enhance the machine’s speed to complete the task in 10-20 days.

Temperature and humidity sensors present in the machine measure the day-to-day process. Once the temperature stabilises, the compost is ready to use.

Moreover, the carbon filter eradicates the smell issue. Besides, Solar Panels installed makes the device energy efficient.
