US-based fashion e-commerce platform Queenly, a leading marketplace and search engine for the formalwear industry, raised US$ 6.3 million on 23 July 2021.

Investors: The funding round was led by Andreessen Horowitz. Other investors include Y Combinator, The House Fund, Interlace Ventures, Dragon Capital, NextView Ventures, MyAsiaVC and Shakti Venture Capital. Queenly also has A-list angel investors such as the former CTO of Uber, Thuan Pham, CPO of Uber, Manik Gupta, CEO of Lambda School, Austen Allred, CEO & co-founder of Mercari, Ryo Ishizuka, CEO of Fitbit, James Park, CMO & co-founder of ScentBird, Rachel ten Brink, and the cofounders of Caviar, Jason Wang, Shawn Tsao and Andy Zhang. The total funding raised by Queenly to date stands at US$ 7.1 million.

Purpose of the funding: The funds raised will be utilized by the company to grow its team and to keep up with industry demand and efficiently scale-out the operations and engineering features.

Founded in 2019 by Kathy Zhou and Trisha Bantigue, Queenly is a dedicated marketplace and search engine for formalwear. They claim to have the largest formal dress inventory in the US by surpassing that of Macy’s, Rent the Runway and Nordstrom. Queenly caters to the prom, pageant, quinceañera and wedding industry among others. It has a massive community of dress enthusiasts. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Queen leverages a proprietary ML-driven search engine and computer vision technology, to tackle the large, underserved formalwear market, which is currently a US$ 15B industry in North America. In the US, the prom season alone accounts for a US$ 4B industry every year.

Queenly combines a personalized, resale marketplace experience with small-business sales and data analytic tools to provide the industry with a comprehensive search engine for the formalwear industry. The co-founders of Queenly Trisha Bantigue and Kathy Zhou have national & international pageant experiences, which they combined to explore the entrepreneurial world and build Queenly.

Trisha Bantigue, CEO and co-founder

Trisha Bantigue is a graduate from UC Berkeley with a major in Political Science. She has worked for Google, Facebook, and most recently Uber. She has competed in many pageants and modelled for fashion designers. Her aim is to build a community that reflects the progressive, inclusive goals and to provide access and affordability to women everywhere.

Kathy Zhou, CTO and co-founder

Kathy graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a double major in computer and environmental science. She worked as a full-stack software engineer at Pinterest, building end to end products from the ML/data backend to web and mobile front-end applications. At Queenly, she aims to build an engineering team that puts communication and compassion first.
