New York based Getaway secures USD 41.7 Million funds

Brooklyn based start-up Getaway raised USD 41.7 million funds on 8th of February , 2021, in series C funding round led by travel and hospitality focused firm Certares. The organization has now collected more than USD 81 million in total funding.

Investors: The organization has acquired USD 41.7 million funds in a series C round led by Certares also with the involvement of previous investors like The Graduate Syndicate, L Catterton and Starwood Group Capital.

What the funding is for: The fresh capital would be utilized to expand at least 17 outposts this year. They are also aiming to develop their infrastructure and baseline and according to sources the company is also aiming to expand their reach all over the world.

Founder of the company: Jon Staff

Founded year: 2015

About the company: Getaway is a privately held organization which functions under the hospitality sector. Its headquarters is established in Brooklyn, New York and has a work strength of 51-200 employees. They also deal with various specialties like healthcare management, hospitality and medicine.

What the CEO has to say: “Eventually Gateway could also add other services and products because the brand is not about tiny houses or cabins, the brand is about the world being too noisy and too connected over the long haul. Gateway could be doing other things to resolve that problem”. Said Jon Staff, CEO of Getaway.

“We always try to remind ourselves that we are not creating the experience at Getaway. If we are doing it well, we are facilitating it, we are giving you everything you need and nothing you don’t. There’s a lot of freedom to make of it what you want as the guest, but there are also boundaries”. Said Jon Staff, CEO of Getaway.

What the investors have to say: “Rather than promoting traditional tourist activities, Getaway emphasizes disconnecting from all the distractions and stresses of daily life. So, it’s cabins don’t include WIFI and also they have lockboxes where visitors can hide their phones till the duration of their visit”. General manager at Certares.

“For a while i had this anxiety that we don’t fit in any box, but later on we learned the benefits of not fitting in any box, that’s where innovation really lies. And the Getaway approach seemed to resonate in 2020 with booking increasing over 150% year over year and the out-spot operating at nearly 100% occupancy”. Said General manager of Starwood Group Capital.
