Qamcom, a leading R&D specialist enterprise focused on systems, hardware and software announced contributing to the development of 6G with the EU funded Hexa-X project on 4th January 2020. The project aims at bringing several technologically advanced European Partners for developing the next gen mobile network. Qamcom will research on localization and network optimization for the same.

What is the Hexa-X project about?

The Hexa-X research project is an EU-funded will expectedly started from January, 2021 and will operate for around two and a half years. It will lay the base for defining principles and setting global standards for the 5G system that will serve as the foundation for the entire telecom industry and the in-future products and services. The purpose for Hexa-X can be described more as the technology to connect the human and physical world with the digital one.

Andreas Wolfgang, the Technical Development Manager at Qamcom said, “As a progressive company driven by development, we have neither the desire nor the luxury to stop. We, like the world, are in constant motion and need to look ahead and focus on the future. In this case, the future is 6G. We see it as a great honour and a fantastic opportunity to be involved in laying the foundation for a new generation of mobile networks. Qamcom will be able to contribute with qualitative research based on cutting-edge expertise and many years of experience within telecom and wireless connectivity,”

He further added, “Being involved in this type of innovation project is incredibly rewarding in itself, and the fact that the project also strives to contribute positively to our biggest global challenges right now makes the endeavour feel even more worthwhile,”

There are six prime research challenges identified to lay down the technical foundation of 6G, Connecting intelligence, creating a network of networks, globalisation and accessibility, performance and capacity, credibility and integrity, and the sustainability perspective. These challenges will address and accelerate the development working to create a common goal. A few other companies involved in the project include, Nokia, Nokia, Ericsson, Intel, Orange, and Siemens. A few of the universities engaged in Hexa-X include Chalmers, University of Helsinki, University of Dresden, University of Kaiserslautern, University of Pisa, University of Turin, and University of Oulu.

In the present world, wireless connectivity is essential not just for society but for the economy as well. The development of mobile networks always had the mission to satisfy people’s desire of communication without any barriers. And 5G is believed to open up the way for digitization, technological transformation and will further take off and revolutionize industries and society at a massive scale. It will be something to be attained by connected, automated, and smart processes on a broad front. 6G will possibly challenge the limit of possibilities in telecom networks and unleash the enormous potential that it has. Besides intertwining the physical and digital world, 6G technology will also work for helping and achieving the sustainable goals of the EU Commission and UN.
