An Atlanta based enterprise Flock Safety that provides license plate readers that help in stopping crime announced on 4th November 2020 that it has secured US$ 47 million in a series C round of funding.

This round was led by VC Meritech Capital with the participation from new investors Kevin Hartz and Julia who are the co-founders of Eventbrite and Zac Bookman from OpenGov and old investors Axon, Initialised Capital, Bedrock Capital, Founders Fund, Y-Combinator and Matrix Partner. Along with the funding announcement they also announced that general partner of Meritech Capital Alex Clayton and Ilya Sukhar from Matrix Partner will be joining the board of Flock Safety.

Flock Safety ensures people don’t have to be frustrated with the increasing number of property crimes. They can simply report the incidents by using license plate readers just like a detective and give police appropriate evidence that can help solve crime.

They have helped police for solving so many cases related to serial identity theft reported in Georgia and California, AMBER alert, aggravated assault, recovering the stolen vehicles, and many more. As reported by the local police the presence of license plate readers by Flock Safety has decreased the crime rate by more than 60%.

They have a simple and straight forward pricing model for their license plate readers. A legal contract for the neighborhood would cost US$ 2,000 per camera for a year which includes everything like installation, cellular service, maintenance, software updates and footage hosting. They also have a police grade camera system available at US$ 2500 per camera for a year which includes footage hosting software updates maintenance cellular service and unlimited hotlist alerts. However for this an additional installation charge of US$ 250 is required.

Flock Safety is built with a privacy first mind set. All the footage is with the owner of the license plate and he decides who can access it. There is no-live view and therefore no one can actually monitor the footage. It is only to help the police with evidence for solving crimes. The data stored with the footage is captured with an AES-256 advanced encryption technology with the Amazon Web Services cloud provider and is automatically deleted over the period of 30 days. The photos can be securely accessed over any Smartphone or laptop.
