InvestHer Summit, a virtual event organized by Canadian startup Pitch Better, aimed towards connecting investors with Canadian female enterprise owners, has opened applications for PitchHER, the event’s startup pitch competition for women entrepreneurs.

Startups have the chance to present their business in front of professionals and investors, through the pitch competition. Furthermore, they stand a chance to win $10,000 CAD in prize money.

Applications for the pitch competition close on September 23, 2020. The InvestHer Summit will happen on September 26, 2020.

Apart from the pitch competition, the summit will also be inviting speakers such as Yvonne Bajela (founding member and principal of Impact X Capital Partners LLC), Maya Horgan Famodu (partner and founder of Ingressive Capital) and entrepreneur Arian Simone. Individuals attending the summit can also participate in InvestHER’s virtual networking lounge and shop at the summit’s virtual market.

The competition is powered by Microsoft for Startups and Dream Legacy Foundation. PitchHER is looking for small businesses or startups with at best a $1,000 CAD per month run rate. It also encourages and invites LGBTQ+, newbies, differently-abled, and racialized businesspersons to apply to PitchHER.

About Pitch Better

The InvestHER event is being held for the first time and has been organized by Adeela Carter and Amoye Henry, both co-founders of Pitch Better Canada. This is a startup that aims to use market research and strategic acumen to scale and develop women-founded businesses. These two female entrepreneurs have set the foundation to enable women-led startups to acquire capital through grants and funding. Using data gathered in a cutting-edge research project conducted across Canada, Pitch Better has recognized some of the main tools needed to help female entrepreneurs “Pitch Better” and enhance their opportunities to obtain capital for their businesses.

Pitch Better has connected many pioneering Black female entrepreneurs with experienced professionals through workshops, talks, and coaching sessions, and has to date supported 243 Canadian businesses. Their vision is to support the growth and success of Canada’s most capable women-led small businesses.

Founders of Pitch Better

Adeela Carter- She had previously worked as a Criminal Lawyer with the Ministry of the Attorney General in the Ontario Court of Justice for 10 long years. She is the founder of The Carter Strategy Group, a global consulting firm that focuses on strategic and business development for entrepreneurs, small businesses and corporate clients.

Amoye Henry- She is a visionary entrepreneur and small business consultant. Her goal is to help scale growth-based businesses led by innovative founders, usually the underdogs. In 2018, she was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Accomplished Black Women.
