May 2, 2023, ANN ARBOUR, Michigan  — A USD 2 million seed fundraising round spearheaded by the Michigan Angel Fund has reached it’s first and considerable close, according to Sniffer Robotics, a leading provider of environmental technology-enabled services. Other investors include Michigan Rise, Abhishek Desai of Desai Ventures (London), and Naruhisa Nakagawa, the creator of Caygan Capital.

The startup, established in late 2016, created a patented drone-based method to find the sources of methane leaks underground. Its SnifferDRONETM Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) is a complete system to automate a risky and time-consuming methane emission monitoring technique where technicians manually inspect landfills, natural gas pipelines, and similar land-based applications by walking miles. The US EPA granted their automated tool for compliance their first and only approval in December 2022, recognizing the advantages of Sniffer’s technology. With a triple benefit to operations, community, and the environment, this method is used nationwide to help sites more accurately account for methane leaks, improve gas collection, and minimize odors.

Sniffer has quickly established itself as a leading product and service supplier for ground-based emissions monitoring. The money from this capital raise will be used to continue and expand product development.

According to Arthur Mohr, Jr., CEO, “I’m extremely grateful to the investors who see the value we offer our customers and the environment and look to harness the momentum from our US EPA approval and successful capital raise to drive the scale we all envision for this business.”

We were pleased to lead this Seed round for Sniffer Robotics, said Skip Simms of the Michigan Angel Fund. SR offers a product and service that makes you wonder, “Why hasn’t someone thought of this before?” In a sizable market, they now enjoy first mover advantage. The EPA has approved them as a qualified vendor for reporting, which has acknowledged their worth for the environment and waste industry. Customers’ savings consistently confirm the value offer. Additionally, their launch will be protected by IP. They have the fuel for acceleration thanks to this cash.
