PORTLAND, October 27, 2022— The Portland International Film Festival will be held on October 27, 2022. Gabbi, a risk assessment and care navigation startup, said today that it has funded USD 4.4 million to further its aim of ensuring breast cancer is recognized at the earliest possible stage when it is curable and survivable. Bread & Butter Ventures led the investment, including Female Founders Fund, WR Hambrecht, Phoenix Rising, Claridge Ventures Advisors VC, Coyote Ventures, Gaingels, and famous angels such as David Kidder, Sarah Jones Simmer, and Naseem Sayani.

Gabbi’s creator and CEO, Kaitlin Christine, stated:

“Just as streaming platforms have paired user-specific behaviors, hyper-personalization, and a vast library of media content (data) to deliver a 100% unique user-by-user experience, Gabbi is pairing individual women’s input with vast amounts of clinical data and tested medical standards to deliver more accurate risk profiles for women of all ages and races in the comfort and intimacy of their own home. I’ve seen the importance of early detection—when found early; the five-year survival rate is 99%! Everyone should have the skills to identify their risk and obtain the treatment they need.”

“We are delighted to support Kaitlin and the Gabbi team on this essential goal,” said Mary Grove, General Partner at Bread & Butter Ventures. “Their innovative approach to using data to identify risk and eventually empower women to take more control of their health outcomes is game-changing. Gabbi’s laser emphasis on women aged 21-49, who have typically been excluded from these exams, alters the game for everyone.”

Christine noted that Grove, as well as every other investor on Gabbi’s cap table, has a personal connection to the Gabbi cause, whether they are cancer survivors, have lost a loved one to cancer, or have a loved one who is presently facing cancer. Everyone who is rooting for Gabbi is well aware of the issue at hand.

More about the startup:

Gabbi is a new risk assessment and care guidance tool that provides women of all ages and ethnicities with rapid, accurate findings. For the first time, women may understand their risks and be equipped with guidelines that allow them to take proactive measures. Gabbi offers a complete solution, including risk assessment findings, tailored continuing care plans, and a care concierge.

A late diagnosis has a 31% five-year survival rate. Christine and Gabbi hope to change this reality by repurposing data. They developed the GRAM (or Gabbi Risk Assessment Model), a proprietary machine-learning risk model that considers four distinct data types and is based on one of the world’s largest and most diversified claim collections.
