SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 8, 2022 — Flair, makers of intelligent vents, thermostats, and user-friendly software for room-level temperature control, announced today a USD 7.6 million Series A fundraising round has been closed. Active Impact Investments and Lowercarbon Capital co-led the round, with participation from previous investors SOSV, Skyview, Peter Nagar, and Resilience Capital Partners, as well as new investors Shell Ventures and Susquehanna Foundation. 3M Ventures, the venture capital arm of 3M, also played a strategic role in the round.

“Every year, more than 25% of our worldwide GHG emissions are caused by building operations. The magic of what the Flair team has created is that customers are embracing their product lineup first to solve a comfort issue, which also happens to lower one of the major causes of emissions significantly.” Mike Winterfield, managing partner of Active Impact Investments

Chris Sacca, managing partner and co-founder of Lowercarbon Capital:

“Heat pumps are the most affordable and environmentally friendly method of cooling homes, and people are vying for them worldwide. All of these machines are transformed into smart devices by Flair, saving you money and the grid.”

More about the startup:

Flair manages 60 Megawatts of energy internationally and has an ever-expanding install base of tens of thousands of households and businesses, mostly in North America. With the help of this Series A funding, they plan to grow their staff, utility, and distribution agreements and develop the products and experiences of the future. Flair will leverage its industry-leading home hybridization solution to leverage its OEM alliances to accelerate the adoption of heat pumps and move the US construction sector as rapidly as possible away from oil and gas-based energy sources.

These kinds of solutions are required to decarbonize buildings and advance the energy transition, according to Hector MacQuarrie, Venture Principal, Shell Ventures. “Flair is providing its customers with an elegant set of solutions that reduce their energy consumption and improve their comfort but also enable a more flexible, responsive energy system.”

Beyond energy conservation and building-level electrification, Flair supports the grid by balancing the demand for heating and cooling with unreliable renewable energy sources like solar and wind. A step toward decarbonizing the energy system while retaining grid stability and resilience is the load flexibility offered by Flair’s products.

Flair produces sophisticated software, intelligent vents, and thermostats for regulating temperature at the room level.

The most complex, pervasive, and reasonably priced issues in HVAC are resolved by Flair’s line of reasonably priced devices.

Engineers, designers, and communicators make up the Flair team, passionate about energy conservation. Their goal is to reduce energy use while cost-effectively increasing comfort.

Flair, a San Francisco-based company founded in 2014, sells its products directly to consumers, HVAC dealers and distributors, and utilities.
