United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) collaborates with Betacube to announce the launch of its first Tech African Women program 2022. The partners unveiled the program on August 4, 2022. The initiative invites women-led idea stage startups from countries such as Ethiopia, Senegal, Tanzania and Tunisia to submit their applications.

Purpose of Tech African Women Program 2022

The objective of the Tech African Women Program 2022 is to empower female founders to leverage their skills to build strong tech startups from scratch. Further, it seeks to accelerate the transformation of project ideas into validated business models. Besides, the program aims to develop alliances between various African ecosystems.

Under the incubation program, teams will receive access to a pool of tech developers and designers. The respective developers and designers intend to aid the groups in building their MVPs cost-free. Moreover, the founders get to work closely with top experts in Marketing and Finance. In addition, the program includes providing customised guidance from international trainers. 

About the program

The five-month program will begin in August 2022 and wrap in December 2022. The TAW consists of 3 main phases-

Intensive 3-day training boot camps and pitching competitions. The location for the same is in Tunisia, Senegal, Ethiopia and Tanzania in partnership with local ecosystem players. The winning team of each boot camp will receive a cash prize of USD 2000. 

A 2-months online incubation program for the best two startups from each country. The incubation program intends to aid the selected startups in reaching market and investment readiness.

 A final Ceremony in Ethiopia in Addis Ababa at ECA Conference Center where eight startups will pitch their ideas. The final prize of the program is a cash grant of USD 7000 for the best startup. 

What the statement reads,

“TAW targets female-led and idea-stage tech startups. It offers teams an exclusive opportunity to acquire new entrepreneurial skills, establish a partnership with their African peers, increase regional business visibility and access funds. It supports ideas addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by developing the capacity of female entrepreneurs who desire to understand how to play a role in the continent’s development and want to deep dive into building impact-driven startups,” read the statement announcing the launch of the program.

Eligibility and Applications for the program

The participants applying for the program must be females between 18-35 years old. They must be denizens of Tunisia, Tanzania, Senegal or Ethiopia. Besides, the founders should have an idea of a tech startup that addresses at least one of the SDGs.

Moreover, the females should have a strong command of French and English. Applications are already open. The deadline for registration in Ethiopia, Senegal, and Tanzania is August 17, 2022. However, the deadline for Tunisia is August 10, 2022.
