Glorang, a Seoul-based ed-tech startup that provides online after-school classes and extracurricular activities for students aged 3 to 18, announced on April 29th, 2022, that it had raised a US $10 million Series A funding round led by Korea Investment Partners and Murex Partners, as well as Japan’s Pksha Capital.

Glorang is now valued at roughly US $40 million thanks to the additional finance, bringing its total to US $18 million.

The company aspires to be the Outschool of Asia. According to Hwang, the company’s business concept is comparable to Outschool, a children’s after-school marketplace centered in San Francisco. Glorang plans to utilize the Series A to expand its service to Japan and Malaysia by the fourth quarter of this year and Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam in the years after that, according to Hwang. It also intends to expand its workforce.

What the founder has to say:

Glorang CEO and founder Taeil Hwang:

“The English-speaking and North American education markets are unquestionably enormous, but we [at Glorang] recognize that each country’s local D2C education market in Asia might be just as significant.

We are optimistic that our platform will have a significant presence in Asia’s ever-growing D2C education sector because we have a team that understands both the local culture and strategies.”

About Glorang:

Glorang was launched in 2017 by Hwang, who began with an AI-powered website that connected students with study abroad opportunities. Glorang pivoted its core company, the online class platform, and created Gguge in 2020 before the COVID-19 epidemic, according to Hwang. Gguge, according to the firm, has over 100,000 users in South Korea.

Gguge uses Zoom to deliver a range of over 5,000 online lessons. Instructors encourage students to participate in active learning activities such as reading newspapers, solving puzzles, and introducing Minecraft and Pokemon games into the classroom.

Gguge allows students to enroll in one-day or subscription-based semester classes. In Korea, the company employs 35 people.
