Speedinvest sponsored a €3 million (Euros) seed investment for Liefergrün, a sustainable last-mile delivery platform, on 17th Feb. Liefergrün plans to use the funds to expand its personnel, improve its platform, and plan for the future. It develops its service to major European cities like London, Paris, and Madrid.

Norrsken VC was also a part of the round. Liefergrün, which operates in 30 cities across Germany, employs a fleet of cargo bikes and electric cars stationed at several local distribution hubs to provide consumers with emission-free delivery of online goods.

What the founder has to say:

The founders of Liefergrün.

“E-commerce has skyrocketed over the last two years,” stated Niklas Tauch, CEO and Co-Founder of Liefergrün. More than 75% of Germans shop online regularly. Liefergrün aims to develop a global green delivery system that does not compromise customer service quality. This money is a critical milestone in our progress. It will allow us to strengthen our position in Germany while also allowing us to grow into other important European cities.”

What the investors have to say:

“Many cities around the world are confronting the same difficulty of getting a handle on the stream of deliveries that decrease air quality and contribute significantly to climate change,” said Mathias Ockenfels, General Partner at Speedinvest.

“Inner-city congestion is a severe concern,” stated Fabian Erici, Investment Manager at Norrsken VC. It produces even more pollution, which causes health problems and adds to the strain on already overburdened healthcare systems. Because last-mile delivery is still primarily handled by fossil-fuel-driven trucks, the burgeoning e-commerce business exacerbates congestion. Consumers and businesses alike are becoming aware of the inefficiency of this system and are demanding alternatives.
