Based in New York, USA, HUED is a healthcare startup that diversifies the patient/doctor connection through an app. It has raised US$ 1.6 million in seed funding on August 9 2021. The financing bout saw the participation of Female Founders Fund, Black Founders Matter, Serena Williams’ VC fund Serena Ventures, Gingerbread Capital and angel investor and healthcare leader Halle Tecco.

Fund Utilisation

The startup will use the funds to scale it up a notch and enhance engagement for physicians and patients. It aims to provide anti-racism and implicit bias practice and training to more than 5,000 healthcare workers in the country. Also, with the platform’s growth, Wilson looks forward to doubling her team by the end of 2021.

What the CEO has to say

Founder and CEO of HUED, Kimberly Wilson, remarked about racial health disparities, “I started this company because of my core belief in the preciousness of Black lives and the desire to protect it. Building a startup as a Black woman in healthcare is hard, incredibly hard. And, I think that’s why this round announcement is extraordinary.”

“My journey was not easy, to say the least,” she explains. “I probably pitched over 100 investors if I’m honest with you about the process. And so, it’s just incredible to have received support from these investors who, from day one, saw the vision and saw our mission.”

Wilson said in the latest press release, “Embarking on such a bold mission to reimagine the healthcare system for communities of colour is no easy feat. It’s incredible to have received the support of incredible investors, such as the Female Founders Fund, to further our mission to empower and train healthcare workers on anti-racist practices, implicit bias, and providing culturally sensitive care for Black and Latinx populations.”

What the Investors have to say

Founding partner of Female Founders Fund, Anu Duggal, says, “We are thrilled to back Kimberly and her vision for HUED in making health care more equitable for millions of Black and Latinx patients. She has built exciting traction with a strong team, and we believe the HUED model will have a massive impact on healthcare outcomes in this country.”

About HUED

HUED was founded in 2018 by Kimberly Wilson to provide adequate healthcare to black and brown people. HUED uses a patient’s insurance provider and region to match providers that expressly understand their cultural, physical and mental needs. The site also allows patients to access reviews about specific providers before making an appointment. The idea behind the startup germinated in 2017 when Wilson personally received improper health care for a fibroid diagnosis.

The startup is now operating with an intention to change the lives of 500,000 Black and Latinx patients by 2025 through expanded admittance to quality healthcare. To know more, visit https://huedco.com/
