US-based AI startup Sirona Medical bags US$ 22.5 million in Series A and emerges from Stealth mode

San Francisco, California based Sirona Medical announced partnerships with radiology practices across the country to develop and bring to market its novel radiology operating system (RadOS) on August 5, 2021. The startup collaborated with five leading national practices, including California Advanced Imaging Medical Associates (CAIMA), Hackensack Radiology Group, and Triad Radiology Group, representing a significant milestone for Sirona’s mission to transform medical imaging.

In the United States, these practices altogether, being subjected to over 2% of radiology reads, currently persist with an estimated volume of 8.3 million studies across more than 100 facilities.

The four-year-old startup raised US$ 22.5 million in Series A and A-1 funding round in 2020, led by 8VC. It intends to expand business operations and capture new development partners in the industry given, Radiology IT is a fragmented marketplace with separate platforms and logins for professionals at each step in their workflow.

Purpose

The radiology practices have witnessed a hike in pressure from the last few years resulting from the increasing shortage of radiologists, growing diagnostic studies, and flinching compensation. Sirona’s cloud-native platform was developed to consolidate fragmented radiological IT systems. It intends to uncomplicate workflow and advance the pace at which radiologists can read, diagnose, and report valuing assessor to assessor. The fully blended Workspace is well-equipped with machinery learning tools. It helps radiologists focus on image and patient diagnosis and frees them from managing haphazard technological components. Thus, it saves time and guarantees to deliver high-quality reports essential to practice referrals and reimbursements.

What the Partners have to say

Jay Kaiser, MD, president, and medical director of (NOIA), said, “Radiologists have a rare combination of medical and technical acumen, yet the technology provided to us thus far has only slowed us down, increasing opportunity for errors and in turn, decreasing our overall job satisfaction.” He continues, “We’re incredibly excited to partner with Sirona, help develop the RadOS platform, and implement a solution that we believe will revolutionize the practice of radiology as we know it today.”

Francisco Gimenez, partner, 8VC, comments on the fundings, “It’s clear that to deliver on the promise of AI, we need to start by rebuilding the IT infrastructure in radiology. Sirona’s deep radiology expertise combined with its AI and cloud-based tools make the company uniquely positioned to improve the efficiency of radiology practices and address the market demand for technology-enhanced, real-time image interpretation.”
