The Extreme Tech Challenge and TechCrunch

The Extreme Tech Challenge of California and TechCrunch have partnered to showcase the startups, investors, and corporations from around the globe that are working to address extreme challenges like climate change, economic inequality, sustainability and COVID-19. The Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) Global Finals is the culmination of XTC 2021’s year-long competition which has received over 3,700 startup applications across 92 countries which will be held on 22 July 2021.

The winners will be selected from thousands of applications, across the following categories –

·       AgTech

·       Food & Water

·       Cleantech & Energy

·       Education

·       Enabling Technologies

·       FinTech, Healthcare

·       Transportation & Smart Cities

The startups will get a chance to pitch to a panel of leading investors. They can also win the following XTC 2021 Special Awards – Covid-19 Innovation Impact, Female Founder, Ethical AI and Positive Home.

What is the Extreme Tech Challenge? It is a large startup ecosystem that aims at powering a better world via purpose-driven innovation and technology. It is inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through this competition, XTC will provide top startups the potential for global visibility, capital raising, corporate collaborations and world-class mentorship to enable them to discover technological breakthroughs and sustainability in operations. XTC is active across 6 continents in more than 90 countries. In 2021, XTC 2020 finalists had raised over US$ 167 million combined in venture investment since being selected.

Powering the Future Through Transformative Tech – Young Sohn (Young Sohn (XTC Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board, HARMAN International, and former Samsung Corporate President and Chief Strategy Officer), Bill Tai (XTC Co-Founder, Partner Emeritus, Charles River Ventures) and Beth Bechdol (Deputy Director-General, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
