Praava Health, a Bangladesh based healthcare company that seeks to increase access to quality healthcare in Bangladesh, announced early in March 2021 the raising of funds in its Series A round. The round brings the total funds raised by the company to around US $ 10.6 million.

Investors: Praava Health has actively been backed by a multitude of notable angel investors, namely: David Petraeus, former Central Intelligence Agency director and United States Army General; Esther Dyson, founder of Way to Wellville; Dr Rushika Fernandopoulle, CEO and co-founder of Iora Health; Geoff Price, co-founder and COO of Oak Street Health; Dr Jeremy Lim and SBK Tech Ventures.

With the new round of funding, Praava Health plans on developing an app for its patients that integrates all of its online healthcare services in one place. It also plans on adding an additional 10 healthcare centres in Dhaka to increase access to patients.

About Praava Health:

Founded in 2016 by Sylvana Quader Sinha, Praava Health is a brick-and-click healthcare company that seeks to provide both online and in-person quality healthcare services primarily to the people of Bangladesh.

Sylvana Sinha had an exceptional career in international law. The idea to come up with Praava Health, according to her, came when her mother almost died in an operation at a top private hospital.

It is then that she realised that even after being one of the emerging economies of Asia, Bangladesh severely lacks an effective healthcare system. With only around 1% of its population having health insurance and there being only  3 physicians and 1 nurse for every 10000 people, a majority of Bangladeshi citizens are deprived of quality healthcare.

Praava Health endeavours to change this with its brick-and-click model of healthcare. Its virtual consultation and pharmacy services provide access to healthcare to the people living in remote areas, who otherwise would have had to travel long distances just to gain access to healthcare. It provides its services at a fairly reasonable price so that everyone can access them.

What the Founder has to say:

“I think technology is the future of health, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. But when it comes to seeing a doctor and the kind of healthcare needs that we all have over the course of our lifetime, technology is not going to be able to replace that entirely.” —Sylvana Quader Sinha, founder of Praava Health.
