About Getaway

Founded in 2015 by Jon Staff, Getaway is a wellness hospitality company that offers cabin rentals in natural landscapes. Getaway builds ‘Outposts’, a collection of tiny cabins in rustic locations. Each cabin is built with its own fire pit and is spaced 50 to 150 feet from the other, with no common areas.

The company aims to provide lifetime experiences to people by providing them with beautiful tiny houses nestled in the woods. People get disconnected from the social world and live in the present moment. The cell phones are packed away in the phone lockboxes and the travellers get a chance to rediscover the art of a good conversation. Getaway’s mission is to offer an experience worth coming back to, helping travellers to introspect and enjoy nature.

Getaway’s outposts are located within a two-hour drive of major metro cities, far enough to disconnect but close enough for an escape. Getaway is currently operating three outposts outside New York, Boston and Washington, DC. In 2020, its bookings increasing by 150% year-over-year and its Outposts were operating at nearly 100% occupancy.

What the CEO has to say: “While our offerings weren’t designed with a pandemic in mind, they turned out to be well-suited for a time when people were eager to find safe ways to get off Zoom and out of their homes,” said Jon Staff.

“We try to get you to do nothing, quite literally. How few moments are there in life when you really have enough free time that you could do nothing? And if not nothing, have a deep conversation with your partner, or take the time to cook a good meal and really enjoy the experience with people who are there sitting next to the campfire with you,” he added.
