Temasek Funds Sponsored Indian Startup in Bringing Artificial Technology to Farms

CropIn , A Bengaluru based- Agritech startup has secured an amount of 20 Million USD on 6th of January, 2021 in a funding round provided by Temasek Holdings Pte- supported by ABC World Asia. 

Additional New Investors in Series C funding include:

*Infosys Co-Founder Kris Gopalakrishnan’s family office.

*A fund of the UK govt, CDC Group.

CropIn has raised USD 33.1 Million so far in funding over 10 rounds. The total number of investors in these 10 rounds are 11, among them Krishna Kumar(CEO), Vinay Kashyap and Neel Kamal (Principle Engineer).

CropIn is an AI – led Agritech organization and an Earth Observation that authorizes the farming community to “Re-imagine Agriculture with Data”. The company deals with various specialties which includes Big Data Analytics, Agriculture, Farm to Fork Traceability, Sustainable Agricultural Solutions, Field Force Monitoring, Yield Estimation, Crop Detection and Compliance.

Krishna Kumar laid the foundation of CropIn in 2010. Krishna Kumar belonged to a family of farmers in central India. Enormously concerned by the extensive rural suicides of farmers in India, he dropped out of his studies on General Electrics for initiating a start-up for farmers. 

CropIn has computed over 5 million acres of farmland in total, with employment of 2.1 million farmers and stored data of 3,500 crop varieties and 265 crops. Currently, CropIn has approximately 101-250 employees working in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The agricultural AI and data based startup at the Bangalore- headquarter provides SAAS (software- as- a- service), generous and creative products to farms and develop organizations across the world to upgrade efficiency, predictability and sustainability of crops.

Products of CropIn facilitate data- driven farming through communicating with all the stakeholders in the Agritech- ecosystem.

SmartRisk, SmartFarm, mWarehouse and AcreSquare come under product portfolio.

CropIn has their customers spread across the world including 52 countries like Singapore- based VC BeeNext, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Basel- headquartered Syngenta Corp, Canada- based McCain food Ltd, Germany’s BASF SE and the World Bank. Thus, CropIn empowers businesses to leverage technology and the new funding will play the role of further expansion of global technology and support in strengthening it. The primary focus has been laid on focusing on such improvements by practical approaches like renting farm equipment and aggregating farm produce.
