The e-commerce giant Amazon announced it is acquiring Wondery, the web behind the podcasts like “Dirty John” and “Dr. Death” on 30th December 2020.
The Financial terms of this acquisition deal are not disclosed. But as per the Wall Street Journal reported previously that the deal was valued Wondery at approximately $300 million.
As the platform announced, “Together with the podcast network Wondery, we will continue bringing more consumers to stream and expand selection, ensuring we are the destination to discover and listen for our customers and bring them the creators and artists they really enjoy.”
The American network, Wondery will now be a part of Amazon Music and add support for the podcasts and their own shows in the coming September. The announcement also claims that there will be no changes for the consumers and the podcasts will still be available from various providers.
The several media companies and audio streaming platforms are investing in podcasting. Amazon is coming quite late to this creative market, but they will have the support of a renowned podcast platform that can surely catch up for the rest!
Podcasts were launched by Amazon Music in September this year. This is an important moment in the expansion of Amazon Music to offer music with the evolving of listener habits. The recent partnership of Amazon with Twitch is to bring live streaming feature in the Amazon Music for making the app the ultimate music destination for the creators. With this acquisition deal and partnership with Twitch, Amazon is all set to grow in the podcast world.
