Bodle Technologies, a Yarnton, Oxfordshire based organization secured Series A funding extension led by a leading science and technology enterprise, Oxford Sciences Innovation on 21st December 2020. The extension funding amount is not disclosed by the company.

The original Series A funding round was announced in 2018, and helped Bodle Technologies to gain £6 million from investors like Woodford Patient Capital Trust, Parkwalk Advisors and a few others. The recent extension funding round was led by OSI or the Oxford sciences innovation with the support from United Kingdom’s Government future fund. The UK Government future fund is a credit scheme for the high growth enterprises and was launched in early 2020 as a part of its £1.25 billion support fund for the startups in the UK during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Founded in 2015 by three people, David Fyfe, Dr. Peiman Hosseini and Prof Harish Bhaskaran, Bodle Technologies is a spin off from the Oxford University. Earlier this year Dr. Peiman Hosseini moved from the CTO to CEO role after leading the technology development of the firm for 5 years. He said, “Display applications will continue to be one of the prime offerings of Bodle, we have built a simpler implementation for our technology that enables printing activation using a laser pulse, it removes the requirement for inkjet printing and complex electronics.

This whole process has many potential applications like product customization, labeling and security. This has provided us with a product with short term revenue and is all set for scaling up and commercialization now. The customers are already exploring this unique and innovative technology with the available samples to purchase.”

All internet protocols generated by Prof Harish Bhaskaran’s research group on this optoelectronic framework are licensed to Bodle Technologies. Most of this patented portfolio is granted in several jurisdictions. The research group at the University is continuously pushing forward the frontiers on this domain with the regular generation of new academic publications and internet protocols.

The principal of OSI, Martin Fiennes (also a board member of Bodle Technologies) said his team recognizes Bodle for the “next big displays tech”.

Bodle Technologies is building the world’s first ever solid state reflective display technology, SRD utilizing the phase change materials. It provides video capability and vivid colors, with zero use of energy for storing static images. This technology is ideal for addressing the high power consumption and poor outdoor readability issues associated with emissive and transmissive displays. The technology can also create luminous colors for thin film laser printing or displays that have their uses in areas like product customization, labeling and security.
