A Madrid based anti counterfeit startup, Smart Protection has secured €10 million Series B investment on 18th November 2020. The round was led by Knight Capital and Swanlaab Venture Factory and included participation from the Spanish National Innovation Agency, CDTI.
The funding round details
Some of the previous investors of smart protection also joined this funding round. This includes JME Ventures, Bankinter, Telefónica, Big Sur Ventures and Nauta Capital. A few of these investors also participated in its Series A round last year which closed at €5.2 million. The company is planning to continue their international expansion plans with the received funding and hiring the best engineering talent.
Smart Protection is an organization that protects and keeps industrial property and intellectual rights online. They identify the illegal copies and inappropriate uses of the brand using their technological platform and eliminate it. The integral service offered by the platform protects the assets of the company, reduces sales loss and improves its online reputation.
Smart Protection was founded in 2015 as the first Spanish company delivering audio visual content protection. They also received the EIT Digital Challenge honor to Digital Infrastructures in the next year of foundation. The company experienced international expansion in 2017 with the joining of new investors which helped them grow their reach in Europe. They were also awarded the Seal of Excellence of the European Commission in 2017. They currently operate at an international scale with our clients in around 12 countries from Europe, Canada, US and LATAM. The 75 percent of their income is from outside Spain.
Their specialized services are offered in 4 units’ Brand, Media, Publishing and Live. Brand focuses on labels and items in every sector for non authorized uses. Media is for protecting the audiovisual content from pirating issues. Live protects TV channels and live events from any illegal broadcasts. And Publishing is for protecting any kind of digital publications that include comics, newspapers and books.
