AFK Gaming raises US$200K.

Mumbai-based esports content startup, AFK Gaming has raised US$200K in a pre-Series A funding round held in September 2020 from Inflection Point Ventures (IPV).

Proceeds from the funding round will be used to expand its reach via programmatic and direct advertising. It is also looking forward to increasing the scope of coverage to other esport labels in Southeast Asia.

What is AFK Gaming?

AFK Gaming was founded by Nishant Patel, Rakesh Ramchandran, and Siddharth Nayyar in 2012. The startup produces content in various formats such as written, video, live and social. Consequently, helping brands and contest organizers engage with the Online sports audience. Dota 2, CS:GO, PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang (MLBB), Garena Free Fire are some of the games they focus on. In addition to their website, they provide admirable esports content on various other platforms including YouTube and Facebook. AFK gaming raises US$200K to tackle the issue of lack of exposure to online sports.

The startup has over 15 million monthly impressions across the web, video, and social media. AFK also claims that it has witnessed 4x times growth since January 2020. Additionally, it has signed service contracts with some of the leading tournament organizers, producers and brands in India. AFK’s roster of clients includes ESL, Republic Of Gamers, Zowie Asia eXTREMESLAND, Nodwin Gaming and Zowie.

Co-founder Nishant Patel said that in spite of the presence of some of the finest esports teams, tournaments and players belonging to the Asian region, there is an extreme lack of exposure available for the universal audience. Therefore, AFK Gaming intends to bridge this gap by combining the teams’ proficiency in esports content creation with IPV’s expertise in building sustainable businesses, he concluded.
