Gurugram-based English learning app for children OckyPocky announced in September 2020 that it has raised US$ 400K in a seed funding round, led by Lead Angels Network.

Proceeds from the funding round will be used to expand sales competences and develop its technology to meet the surging demand.

OckyPocky

Amit Agrawal, Former Youtube India head and IIM Bangalore alumnus founded the startup in 2015.

OckyPockyis an octopus created by the Whizkid team that assists children in learning English using custom-made AI/NLP behind the screens. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi had recently praised the Channapatna toy industry for making affordable toys based on the Indian culture and its heritage. Fascinatingly, OckyPocky, the octopus, is based on the Channapatna toy theme.

The founder and CEO Amit Agrawal said that, with the onset of the pandemic and the ensuing lockdown, their servers crashed due to increased traffic. Hence, they had to downsize to increase the runway. He further added that Lead Angel’s investment in his startup proved beneficial and has resulted in doubling of revenue. Their team is also looking forward to increasing its headcount and are looking out for a bigger office space.

The startup has also begun live classes with the theme “Skills that matter”. With this, they aim to impart creativity and logical reasoning along with spoken English.

Manish Johari, SVP Lead Angels, and entrepreneur Ambuj Jhunjhunwala were quoted to say, “We have seen increased adoption and crazy growth on the back of COVID-19 and lockdown effect. Lead Angels is delighted to partner with OckyPocky and assist in high growth trajectory while creating social impact across non-English speaking homes.” OckyPocky had previously raised an undisclosed amount of funding from ah! Ventures in an angel round held in August 2018.
