Mumbai and Denver-based CometChat raises US$ 1.6M in seed funding round

CometChat is a communication-platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) startup founded by Anuj Garg and Anant Garg.

Mumbai and Denver-based CometChat, a cloud-based platform raised US$ 1.6M in its seed funding round on 19 August 2020.

The participants in the funding round include iSeed Ventures, the micro fund floated by Utsav Somani, India head of US-based investment crowding platform AngelList, Colorado-based VC firm Range Ventures and New York based VC firm Silicon Badia among others.

The funds raised will help CometChat to fuel its growth by entering new markets in US and India with its developer-first marketing approach. The capital will also be invested towards product development. 

CometChat is a B2D (business to developer) startup, which was incorporated in US in 2019. It was founded by Anuj Garg and Anant Garg. CometChat is a communication-platform-as-a-service (CPaaS), that provides its customers a communication platform for their websites, web apps, IoT and mobile apps.

It designs critical functions like chat, video, and live event capabilities within websites and apps. CometChat helps its customers to boost their user engagement and accelerate their go to market time. The startup claims that its product and solutions have helped enterprises save hundreds of developer hours and the associated costs. They have two products- CometChat Go and CometChat Pro, both are priced at US$49/month.

CometChat is also the first and only Indian startup to be selected for Techstars Boulder Accelerator Programme. It also received funding as a part of the programme. It has also built a strong base in both US and India with a backing of well-known VCs in both countries.

Some of their clients include- Harvard University, Afrojack, Rackspace, Bharat Matrimony, HDFC Life and JPMorgan Chase among others.

iSeed Ventures’ Somani said that he invested in CometChat as he was attracted by how text, voice and video will play a vital part in bringing intimacy to online experiences. Somani also said that the investors in iSeed can act as a bridge for Indian founders, who are increasingly targeting international customers and investors.
