FinTech startup Clik bags US$ 3.7M in seed funding

Cambodia-based FinTech startup Clik has bagged US$ 3.7M in a seed funding round held in August 2020, led by Openway and Poems Pte Ltd. along with numerous angel investors, a third of which are based in Cambodia.

Capital raised will be used to enhance its product engineering and customer service teams as it advances towards its official launch in Cambodia by the end of 2020.

Founded in 2016 by Darren Jensen, Matthew Tippetts and Skye Cornell, Clik offers advanced digital payment services to businesses, merchants and consumers.

Matthew Tippetts, CEO said, “The closing of our seed round is a sign that investors are eager to back future proof platforms for the ‘new normal’ that will inevitably exist post-COVID. It also shows that investors see attractive opportunities for investment in Cambodia, especially in start-ups with robust regional potential.”

Their digital transaction services enable consumers to pay from their cards, wallets and bank accounts while also allowing merchants and enterprises to accept such payments. Clik provides all such payments through a “tap to pay” mode using mPOS and SoftPOS.

It has even built its own eKYC solution, through which it can apparently register consumers and merchants in minutes while sticking to data privacy, security and banking regulatory standards. Clik is also looking forward to integrating with Bakong, a blockchain-based digital currency, by the National Bank of Cambodia.

The Fintech startup has also partnered with MYPINPAD, a payments software verification solutions, to launch tap-to-pay digital payments using mobile devices.

Clik is preparing for a nation-wide launch at the end of 2020, as they currently have close to 2,500 merchants and 5 financial establishments in their beta programs and connections with over 56K more merchants through their partners. In addition to the funding round, Clik has also declared the key recruitment of Patrice Vignes as Chief Operating Officer and Board Member, as well as Olivier Mermet as Chief Design and Strategy Officer.

The company’s vision is to create a digital community across Southeast Asia by delivering a 100% safe and continuous payment method, suitable for anyone and everyone.
