Berlin-based Venture Capital firm, La Famiglia has obtained funding of €50M in August 2020 from prominent industry titans Mittal, Pictet, Oetker, Hymer and Swarovski families, industry influentials Voith and Franke, as well as the family owners behind companies such as Hapag Lloyd, Solvay, Adidas, and Valentino. Niklas Zennström (Founder of Skype, Atomico), Zoopla’s Alex Chesterman and Personio’s Hanno Renner also invested.

This second fund will make opening investments of up to €1.5M with a focus on startups dealing with logistics and supply chain, industrial tech and insurance. The rest of the fund is reserved for follow-on rounds.

Founded by Dr. Jeannette zu Fürstenberg together with partner Judith Dada and Robert Lacher, the VC is on a mission to increase cooperation between young digital innovators and leading companies. They encourage startup founders by providing them a great network and capital to help their company reach greater heights.

To date, the venture capital firm has backed 37 startups like San Francisco’s relationship intelligence platform Affinity, Berlin’s freight forwarding platform Forto, Munchen’s HR management and recruitment solutions’ platform Personio, London’s industrial startup CloudNC, San Francisco’s digital asset management system Impira and many more.

La Famiglia had closed its first fund in 2017 at €35M and one of its investors since the beginning – the Franke group, has been very pleased with the VC’s concept of connecting traditional economy families with new-age startups. Its second fund has already invested in a number of startups such as in Berlin-based Spread.ai; building a product intelligence platform, Munich-based Luminovo; building the operating system for the electronics industry, and London-based ChaosIQ; building a resilience infrastructure platform.

zu Fürstenberg, who herself belongs to a family of industrial business owners said, “Rather than providing a mere network, which is often highly transactional, this exposure has allowed La Famiglia to form strong relationships that are built on trust. No matter what the age or the industry, when you put entrepreneurs face to face they often speak the same language, and this makes an impact on both sides”.
