Muse Wearables, a startup incubated at IIT Madras by an alumni group along with an NIT Warangal alumnus has raised US$ 2.9M in July 2020. The wearable wrist band that can identify COVID-19 symptoms in a person just in the initial days of getting infected will be available in the market next month, that is, August 2020. The startup has also planned to launch the tracker in 70 countries.

About the startup:

Muse Wearables is situated out of Bengaluru, Karnataka and was founded in 2016 by Yathindra Ajay, Prathyusha Kamarajugadda and Sai Prasanth Kln. The startup designs, develops and sells consumer and wearable electronics, mobile software, online services. They have created and launched world’s first payments enabled Muse Hybrid Smartwatch that functions without charging for one whole year. The team has built multiple products namely:

Muse Hybrid Smartwatch, that enables automatic activity tracking, sleep tracking, UV exposure tracking, mobile notifications, contactless payments, camera/music control, SOS alerts, and many more features.

Muse Health, that aims to improve your personal and physical wellness hence bridging the gap between your current lifestyle and the lifestyle you want to achieve.

MusePay, that enables cashless payments effortlessly. Upon registering, Muse Card, a virtual prepaid card is generated that helps users shop anywhere around the world. Other features included in this service are:

Muse Watch, that enables you to pay for anything and everything, like your morning coffee or daily metro trips.
Muse Wallet, that helps you to seamlessly scan QR code and make transactions.

About Muse Wearables’ COVID-19 detector:

The wrist-based tracker has devices that measure skin temperature, heart rate and SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation) which can continuously track these body vitals even slightly to help in early finding of COVID-19 symptoms.
The tracker will be Bluetooth-enabled and can be connected to the mobile phone through an App called the Muse Health App. The user’s physical health conditions and activity data are stored in the phone as well as a remote server. For monitoring people on a large scale, like those present in containment zones, administrative access will also be provided to the authorised officials.

Users can raise an SOS (emergency alert) in case of any trouble, for example when body temperature is higher than the threshold or SpO2 levels are too low or when the user is entering into a COVID containment zone. The wrist band has been priced at around INR 3500/US$ 46.8 and will be made available in the market for consumers across 70 countries by August.

KLN Sai Prasanth, an IIT Madras alumnus was quoted to have said that, “We are targeting 0.2 million product sales this year with plans to achieve 1 million product sales by 2022 across the world. The investors believe in our innovations and believe that we can create a huge difference in the consumer tech space and we have been able to generate a funding of US$ 2.9M.”

K Prathyusha, an NIT Warangal graduate, said, “Our main objective with this product is to facilitate identification of patients who have COVID pneumonia sooner so that they can be treated more effectively. We have developed algorithms to estimate body temperature from skin and ambient temperature, heart rate and motion sensing. With continuous temperature and SpO2 monitoring, we will be able to detect silent hypoxia (an early symptom of coronavirus infection even in asymptomatic patients) at an early stage. This will also help the general public for proactive health monitoring along with fitness tracking and sleep tracking.”

Muse has also decided to start delivering a COVID-19 essentials kit which will include face masks, sanitizers, wipes, thermometer, and gloves. Their aim is to fulfill the requirements of our community in these difficult times, unburden the health workers and keep them safe.

Previous funding:

The startup had previously raised US$1.1 M in over 3 seed funding rounds involving investors namely, Keiretsu Forum, CA Thomas Mathew, Lead Angels, SS Rajamouli, Shobu Yarlagadda and Keiretsu Forum (Chennai and Singapore).
