Oyo partners with Unilever to offer hygienic stays

OYO Hotels & Homes has collaborated with Unilever (global consumer goods company) in July 2020, to promote OYO’s “Sanitized Stays” initiative. Unilever will aid OYO by using its home and personal hygiene brands in the cleaning and disinfecting of OYO properties.

About the alliance

On 19th March 2020, OYO rooms announced the unveiling of its new service “Sanitised Stays” to provide a cleaner and more hygienic experience to guests right from check-in to check-out. This initiative will help cater to the sudden changes in guest needs in a post-COVID world.

Unilever’s R&D team will work with OYO to co-create Standard Operating Procedures for cleaning to make the best use of Unilever products. The partnership aims to achieve higher cleanliness standards, negligible-touch services, ensuring social distancing at all points and enhanced accountability of customer feedback and their requirements. OYO properties which utilize these operating procedures will display a tag on their booking pages to show Unilever products have been used in sanitization services.

Among the many protocols to be followed in these operating procedures are deep-cleaning and disinfecting high-touch zones in rooms, such as door handles, phones, light switches and all hard surfaces. Common areas, including elevators, registration desks and dining rooms, will be sanitized at least four times a day. Alcohol-based hand gel/sanitisers will be made available for guests at all main entrances, exits and high-traffic areas too.

OYO had planned to apply these measures in 1,000 hotels initially, in the last week of May 2020. Consequently, in the coming months, as the coronavirus situation improves, these measures will be implemented in all the 18,000 hotels of OYO in India.

Through this partnership, chosen OYO properties will have Unilever hygiene kits for guests and cleaning supplies for staff, including products from brands such as Lifebuoy, Domex, Sunlight and Cif. This global alliance will commence in India and then go live across Indonesia, Vietnam, the US, LATAM and Europe.
